Steps 1 to 4
Planning the water garden is most important. Getting the edges of the hole level all around is another important factor. Line the hole with old carpet scraps or thick newspaper to avoid sharp stones or roots puncturing the lining. Calculate the size of the lining. I added a bit extra and so had sufficient lining. I used EPDM which is light and durable. I put this liner in by myself. It is easy to handle and cut. An easy way to calculate the capacity of your pond is to make a note of the water meter reading before filling, and after filling. Try to do this when no one else is running water in the home.
My notes show that I have 28 hours of time invested in the project at the end of step 4. The soil is clay which is hard to dig but makes excellent sides for the water garden.
