Pond

Some of the problems with the pond are the predators. I have had a river otter to visit, there are racoons (I have never managed a photo of one though). There are herons that come to visit. I have birds coming to bath and dragon flies, frogs and other creatures that I would not see if I did not have the water gardens. Another detail that needs attention is to keep a hole in the ice that forms in the winter, so that the fish can get oxygen.
A well balanced pond does not get algae. To achieve that the size and number of fish should not exceed the volume of water and its ability to retain oxygen. The running water from the pump and all of the plants help balance the fish activities or leaves and debris falling into the pond. I skim off the surface occasionally to help keep the water clear.
