| Page 17 – Wurzburg , Germany Day 6 – October 27, 2005 We take buses to Wertheim after our walking tour of Miltenburg. We reboard the ship and have lunch. We reboard the buses right after lunch for our excursion to Wurzburg. We do not get to see any thing of Wertheim which has an old stone fortress dating back to 1100. We have a very animated tour guide for our tour of the Prince-Bishops’s Palace (built 1720 –1744. Unesco-world heritage building. One of Europe’s greatest palaces and a beautifully laid-out “Royal” court garden. (The garden was put to bed for the winter and I did not have time to take photos.. sigh) Inside the Residence the world’s largest ceiling painting by the Venetian Tiepolo. We were not allowed pictures inside, only in the chapel. This palace is extremely opulent and was built to imitate Versailles. |
